To use the internet, you first have to connect your computer to it. There are several simple ways to do this:

Vanilla broadband

Affordable, fast and always on access to the internet using Asynchronous Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL) technology. Gives you internet browsing and instant email without frustrating waits. Just what you need to use Google and Skype.

Vanilla broadband is uncapped and unshaped. This means that you can use the internet as much as you like. Vanilla won't limit or 'cap' your usage after you have used your allocation of usage'; Vanilla continues to provide access after your threshold is reached, but will charge you later for your additional usage (and we ask for a refundable deposit in advance). And Vanilla doesn't restrict how you use different websites - we treat them all the same (whatever 'shape' they are).

• Vanilla broadband come in three sizes:
  • Vanilla Cone. 500Mb, ideal for email, light browsing and doing your banking. R59/month plus 16 cents/Mb if you use more than that.
  • Vanilla Cup. 1Gb, just what you need for exploring the internet. R119/month plus 14 cents/Mb if you use more than that. We ask you for a refundable deposit when you sign up.
  • Vanilla Tub. 3Gb, best if you want to download songs or pictures. R290/month plus 14 cents/Mb if you use more than that. We ask you for a refundable deposit when you sign up.
• You will need an ADSL line from Telkom, and an ADSL modem. ADSL lines carry data a different speeds - the faster the speed, the higher the monthly cost. Current Telkom costs are:
  • 384kps - R245/month
  • 512kps - R326/month
  • 1024kps - R516/month

Vanilla dialup

A simple way to connect your computer to the internet. All you need is a telephone line and a dialup modem. Dialup connections have a speed of up to 56kps. There is no limit on your usage (except your own patience). A dialup connection costs R60/month, plus you will have to pay Telkom the cost of a local telephone call for every minute that you are online.

Vanilla email

Vanilla email is a distinctive, reliable service separate from access. You can be trust this service for secure and effective 'professional to professional' communication, business negotiation and any potentially confidential email. Vanilla email makes use of all the accepted security standards, including POP3, SMTP, IMAP. And using our WebMail feature, you can check your email from anywhere.

Yoiur email address will be yourname@vanilla.co.za unless you own a domain name.

Personal email account: R22/month, or R220/year; Business can have a Vanilla PostOffice, so you can manage your own email accounts running off our systems - ask for a quote.

Vanilla mailing lists

Vanilla mailing lists can be used to send newsletters by email and create discussion lists. The major benefit is that you can send one email to a special email address and allow the opur mailing list service do snd it on to everyone else who is subscribed to the list.

Our service makes use of the well-established open-source 'Mailman' system. Mailing lists can be customised in many different ways, including being able to control who joins the list and check email submitted by members before it goes out to the other subscribers.

We provide a tailored solution to match your needs. Most of our customers use their own domain name to identify their list.

For example, Vanilla supports the Internet Society which runs its own mailing lists for members at isoc.org.za, policy discusions at policy at isoc.org.za and many more lists for:

• project teams
• working groups or
• committees

Other customers such as a private school has replaced their paper based newsletter system with a mailing list; another small business franchisee uses our service to communicate with and between branches.

Vanilla domain names

A domain name is a name for a website; you can also use it for your email address. So if you own the domain name 'superman.co.za' then you can have the email address 'yourname@superman.co.za'. Cool eh?

If you ever leave us :( you can take your domain name with you, so your email address won't ever change.
